Editorial Policy
This page explains how recipes and guides on Chatak Patak are researched, written, tested and corrected, so you know what standard to expect from every page.
Recipe standards
- Every recipe lists measured ingredient quantities, required equipment, and numbered steps written to be followed in order.
- Preparation and cook times reflect realistic home-kitchen conditions, not professional-kitchen speed.
- Where a technique is unusual or easy to get wrong — batter consistency, oil temperature, fermentation — it is explained in the recipe itself or linked to a dedicated technique guide.
- Common mistakes, ingredient substitutions, and spice-level adjustments are included where they are genuinely useful, not added as filler.
Regional and historical accuracy
India's snack and street-food traditions span many distinct regional cuisines, and this library treats them as such rather than presenting one unified national cuisine. Each recipe's origin section is written to reflect what is reasonably well documented or widely agreed upon among food writers and historians. Where an origin is disputed, claimed by multiple regions, or impossible to verify precisely, that uncertainty is stated directly rather than resolved into a single confident claim.
No invented nutrition or health claims
This library does not publish calorie counts, macronutrient breakdowns, or other nutritional data, because that information has not been independently lab-verified for these recipes and publishing estimated figures as fact would be misleading. For the same reason, ingredients are not described as having specific medical or health benefits. Traditional or cultural beliefs about an ingredient may be mentioned as such, but they are never presented as medical advice.
Food safety
Recipes involving raw meat, poultry, dairy, eggs or deep frying include relevant food-safety guidance — safe internal temperatures, safe handling, and storage windows. Reusing frying oil in ways that are unsafe (for example, repeatedly reheating oil past its smoke point or storing it incorrectly) is never recommended.
Images
Photography used on this site is either produced for the site directly or properly licensed; images are not hot-linked from other websites. Where a dish does not yet have photography available, a designed placeholder is shown instead of a stock or unrelated image, so nothing on the site misrepresents what a finished dish looks like.
No fabricated reviews or endorsements
This site does not publish user reviews, star ratings, or quotes attributed to chefs or home cooks. Nothing on this site should be read as an endorsement from a named individual unless that person and the context are real and verifiable.
Corrections and updates
Readers can flag a factual error, a measurement mistake, or a regional claim they believe is wrong through the Corrections page. Reports are checked against the original recipe and, where relevant, against outside sources before a change is made. Genuine, well-supported disagreements about regional variation are typically addressed by adding context rather than overwriting one version with another.
